Facilities At IZE, we are committed to giving our participants the best opportunity to explore the natural, cultural, and historical marvels of Belize or Venezuela in an atmosphere of harmony and comfort. IZE Belize's field station sites are the perfect learning environments for students studying biodiversity, ecology, and foreign cultures, while accomodations at our Venezuela eco-lodge provides a comfortable starting point for adventure. Marine biology station: South Water Caye, Belize IZE's marine biology station is located on beautiful South Water Caye, a 12 acre island approximately 14 miles off the coast of Belize and the town of Dangriga. At the field station is IZE's marine biology lab, a facility unique in Belize complete with a scientific library, wet tables, chalkboard, microscopes, TV/VCR/DVD, display specimens, basic scientific equipment, and a slide projector complete with IZE's own vast slide collection. Here students can look up the fish they saw while diving, watch a video featuring the reef system of Belize, or attend a lecture or slideshow. Rain forest station: Blue Creek, Belize IZE's Blue Creek Rainforest Lodge is located on a private rain forest preserve and wildlife sanctuary, and is the only field station of its kind located in a true rain forest. The station has a small research library and lecture area, and provides access to unsurpassed biodiversity, underground caves systems, crashing waterfalls, Mayan ruins, and cultural activities. Learning adventure in Belize Last year, IZE Belize introduced over 1,200 students and visitors to the spectacular natural history of Belize. We swam with sea turtles, eagle and manta rays and popoises. We spotted jaguars, taipars, tayras, crocodiles and the rare jabiru stork. We witnessed swarms of giant iridescent blue morpho butterflies and spotted several huge rainforest lantern flies. Some of our students even discovered new cave corridors complete with Mayan artifacts over a thousand years old!
