Venezuela Dive Tour
Discover why dive magazines call Venezuela "a world class dive destination that has yet to be discovered" as we sample some of the best diving this Caribbean country has to offer.
Dive the steep coastline of the Henri Pittier National Park, exploring fantastic wrecks and grottos while staying in beautiful waterfront accommodations at our Coral Lagoon Lodge. Then travel east to explore the underwater caves and varied marine life in Mochima National Park and the amazing drift diving and flourishing coral life of Los Roques archipielago, the Caribbeans biggest marine national park.
Day 1: Caracas to Maracy
Arrive in Caracas, the metropolitan cultural center of Venezuela. In Caracas a cab will be waiting to transfer you to the 300-year-old city of Maracay, where you'll spend the night relaxing at a top hotel. (D)
Days 2: Henri Pittier National Park
We'll take a taxi transfer to the coast of the Hernri Pittier National Park, stopping at the famous Rancho Grande bio-station for a glimpse of the abundant bird life and a walk in the cloud forest. A 20-minute boat transfer will take you to our Coral Lagoon Cabin and Dive Camp for lunch followed by an afternoon dive.
Located in the coral lagoon of "La Cienaga" and inaccessable by land, our dive camp is a great place to get away from it all. The lagoon and its bordering mangroves teem with colorful parrot fish, angel fish, trumpet fish, moray eels, sea turtles and octopus amongst others, not to mention many types of flourishing corals and sponges.
Lunch generally consists of the days' catch and is served on the waters edge and eaten while contemplating the amazing views of the surrounding Henri Pittier mountains and the turquoise blue waters of the lagoon. (B, L, D)
Day 3-5: Diving the Coast of Venezuela
The morning and afternoon of day three will be spent scuba diving at several local sites, including two locally renown wrecks, the 'Carmen Fabiana', an impressive 10,000 ton freighter lying at 30 meters and the 'Gran Roque' a typical tug boat lying at 18 meters. Lunch will be served at the dive cabin.
Day four will be spent diving local sites, exploring underwater grottos and canyons, and returning to the cabin for lunch.
On day five we will take a morning boat trip to other dive sites about one and a half hours down the coast for morning and afternoon dives, returning to IZE Venezuela's Eco-lodge for evening meal and the nights stay. (B, L, D)
Days 6-8: Mochima National Park
On day six we'll transfer to Valencia airport for a flight to Barcelona. Established in 1671 by a group of Catalans, the old Venezuelan town of Barcelona was named after their mother town in Spain.
From Barcelona we'll travel on land to Mochima National Park, a paradise of unspoiled beaches and one of the largest national parks in the Caribbean. Located between the towns of Puerto La Cruz and Cumaná, the park covers over 94,900 hectares (950 sq km) of coastal and marine habitat and has some amazing deep-water dive sites. Lunch and afternoons will be spent diving the turquoise waters at nearby sites.
Days seven it's breakfast and an early departure for the days diving in the park, where divers will find a bonanza of species rarely glimpsed elsewhere in the Caribbean. Here divers may spot Black Grunt, Chameleon Blenny, the stunning Blackringed Goby, Emerald Parrotfish, Striated and Ocellated Frogfish, Shortnose batfish and much more. Dolphins abound, and whales have also been spotted.
Day eight wake for an early breakfast and departure for the days diving in Mochima park. Picnic lunch and return for dinner at accommodations.
Days 9-12: Los Roques National Park
On the morning of day nine we'll take a cab transfer to the airport for flight to Los Roques National Park. Arrival in Gran Roque island is followed by a 1-hour boat transfer to Crasky Island dive camp. Lunch is followed by an afternoon dive and sunset dinner.
Scuba diving in the Los Roques archipelago is truely a unique Caribbean adventure, with secluded reefs and incredible amounts of marine life, walls of soft corals and sea whips that descend to more than 200 ft. through a kaleidoscope of tropical fish. Known for its great visabilty, Los Roques has been described as one of the best dive sites in the world by several dive magazines.
Days ten and eleven get set for fantastic morning and afternoon dives, hearty picnic lunches, and dinner at the dive camp.
Spend your last morning in Venezuela relaxing, than take a lunchtime boat transfer and flight to Caracas Airport for the return home.
