Blue Creek Rainforsest Lodge
IZE Belize's Blue Creek Rainforest Lodge is reached by way of a half-mile foot path into the rain forest, along the banks of the cool, clear Blue Creek. Accomodations are rustic, allowing the spectacular ecology of this luxuriant habitat to take center stage.
Rainforest dining: a cultural experience
If you imagined eating cold, unsavory foodstuff out of tin cans on your rainforest expedition, we think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
Dining at Blue Creek is a delicious cultural experience, complete with fresh baked breads, and meals that are healthy and filling. Beans and rice are a staple in this area of Belize, and may be served often. Due to the remote location, specialty foods are generally not available.
Rustic rainforest lodge and cabins
The rustic rainforest lodge at Blue Creek is a pentagon- shaped building with a kitchen, research library, showers, toilets, and combination lecture/dining area, surrounded by covered decks on three sides, a stairway that leads down to the river, and a picturesque sitting deck overlooking the creek.
Nestled in the banks and along the hillside of Blue Creek are six sleeping cabins of various sizes, each with front porches facing the creek. Blue Creek has full electric power provided continuously.
IZE staff at Blue Creek, Belize
Ignacio Coc manages the Blue Creek Rainforest Lodge and employs all of the IZE Belize rain forest station staff, including field guides, from Blue Creek Village.
Ignacio is Mayan and speaks Maya, Kekchi, English, and Spanish fluently. Having grown up in Blue Creek, he knows the area extremely well. A naturalist and jungle survivalist, Ignacio knows all about the forest, the animals, the indigenous people and, of course, the local folklore, history, and culture.
With a reputation for integrity and big smile, Ignacio will help to make your adventure in the rain forest meaningful and educational.
